The Samurai: Protectors of the Cow

IndiaDivine.org:
If I were to tell you, that once, no other country, save India, revered the cow as much as Japan, I could understand your disbelief. Today, we think of Japan as a meat-eating culture. However, this image is a product of the last 150 years of American influence. The traditional Japanese culture held the cow as the most sacred animal. What follows next is the true story of among the greatest protectors of the cow – the Samurai.

Current community project of IndiaDivine.org and the Bhaktivedanta Ashram. If you enjoy these articles please consider helping this good cause:
The forests around the Bhola Giri mountain range in Orissa have been sacred for thousands of years due to having been visited by Lord Ramachandra and the Pandavas, and as such sadhus have been residing throughout this area from ancient times. Devotees from the Bhaktivedanta Ashram have been meeting with and trying to help some of the present sadhus over the last 10 years. In the past we have provided solar lighting to some ashrams, running water (through water tanks fed by gravity from a nearby waterfall), and constructed rooms for sadhus to stay as well as bathrooms and toilets for elderly sadhus.
