IndiaDivine.org:
The forests around the Bhola Giri mountain range in Orissa have been sacred for thousands of years due to having been visited by Lord Ramachandra and the Pandavas, and as such sadhus have been residing throughout this area from ancient times.
Over the last 10 years, devotees from the Bhaktivedanta Ashram have been meeting with and trying to help some of the present sadhus. In the past we have provided solar lighting to some ashrams, running water (through water tanks fed by gravity from a nearby waterfall), and constructed rooms for sadhus to stay as well as bathrooms and toilets for elderly sadhus.
Without any rooms for staying, new sadhus find the place very difficult and too cold to stay in the winter. As a result the elder sadhus, who have been staying there for decades have no one to help them with the ashram services in their old age.
We hope to build simple rooms in the forest for sadhus to stay, so a small community of sadhus can form and assist the elder sadhus who have spent their entire lives doing sadhana in these places. We have identified three seperate ashrams, which we would like to help out. We have already completed building two rooms at one of the ashrams, and would like to build four rooms at each of the other two ashrams.
It may not be possible for most of us to go and stay in the forest as sadhus, but at least we can help those who have taken that difficult vow and thereby get some sukriti.
Below are pictures of the two completed rooms which were built for the ashram of Baba Brahma Chaitanya Das: We have begun work on the second set of rooms, which will be for the ashram of Vishwanatha Baba, and contain 4 rooms: Once that is completed the last set of four rooms will be built for the ashram of Dayalu Baba (seated on right in this photo):
