New RBI debt recast norms to help clean up bad loans
The RBI has allowed lenders to carve out the "unsustainable" portion of their loans to troubled corporates and convert them into equity. The new restructuring scheme will help public sector banks in cleaning up large chunks of their bad loans, which amount to Rs 4.76 lakh crore. The extent of loans which cannot be supported by cash flows are termed unsustainable.

Ruling out any proposal to kill animals as in Bihar to save crops, the West Bengal government has sought the Centre's nod to catch wild elephants and not kill them to protect farmlands and lives of people. Bengal minister Binay Krishna Burman said wild elephants have killed over 100 people in the state last year.

Beijing records highest electric vehicle registrations
A total of 17,600 individual and company applicants submitted applications for EVs, about 5,000 more than the previous round, according to bjhjyd.gov.cn. Beijing plans to allow 60,000 new energy vehicles on the road this year, with 25,424 already assigned in the first two rounds, Xinhua reported.

A Doha court convicted a Dutch woman of adultery and handed her a one-year suspended sentence after she reported being raped while on holiday in Qatar.
