		Sikh protesters alleging desecration of holy book clash with police Members of Sikh organisations and the police clashed on Tuesday over the desecration of the holy Guru Granth Sahib. Members of the Sikh organisation were protesting against the act of sacrilege of tearing off the pages from holy book and had blocked the Barnala-Moga road at village Buttar. Farmers lift week-long rail blockade in Punjab Punjab farmers lifted the rail blockade on Tuesday afternoon after seven days of protest. The blockades were lifted from Rampura Phool, Shergarh and Pathrala villages of Bathinda, Dagru in Moga, Nabha in Patiala, Mansa and Muchhal in Amritsar. The farmers, who were demanding fair compensation for cotton growers whose crops were damaged due to pest attacks, had blocked rail traffic at these points since October 7. Before that, the farmers had staged a dharna continuously for 18 days outside the Bathinda district administrative complex. While the farmers did lift the rail blockade, they decided to continue the protest and to oppose the entry of Shiromani Akali leaders in the villages and to lay siege to residences of Akali ministers on October 22. More than 500 trains were affected in Ferozpur and Ambala divisions during the blockade.
