177 years on, Sher-e-Punjab is back with his general
Almost 177 years af ter the death of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, founder of the Sikh empire, his bust was unveiled at the Square of Allard in Saint-Tropez, France, at 7pm on Saturday, commemorating the connection between the Maharaja, who is known as Sher-e-Punjab, and General Jean Francois Allard, who led Maharaja Ranjit Singh's army from 1822 to 1839. General Allard is said to have modeled Ranjit Singh's Army Fauj-e-khas on that of Napolean. He died fighting for the Sikh ruler.
