The Science Behind Bells in Hindu Temples; Saffron: Ayurveda’s Golden Spice

Saffron is also known as Crocus Sativus and is called as “varnya gana” in the world of ayurveda. This means “one that reveals fairness and glow to skin”. It is one among the most expensive herbs used in Ayurveda, and is also used in Chinese and Unani medicinal preparations. It is hot in potency and it pacifies all three doshas (vata, pitta and kapha).

Have you ever wondered why bells are there in temples. Also large bells, with higher circumference. These are not just hanging there for you to ring. It is an age old tradition to ring the bell of the temple upon entering its premises. Bell ringing is an ancient Vedic ritual and one can see multiple bells hanging over the domes in many Indian shrines.
