As many as 88 youths joined militancy in Jammu & Kashmir in 2016, the highest since 2010, the government told the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Violent protests in the Valley had peaked last year in the wake of killing of Hizbul Mujahideen leader Burhan Wani on July 8. Over 2,100 incidents were reported over a short span of three months from July to September 2016.

The Tamil Nadu government has achieved 88% of the targeted children under the Centre’s vaccination drive for measles and rubella quelling criticisms against the massive exercise in various platforms, health minister C Vijayabaskar said on Tuesday. The nearly month-long drive was launched in the state on February 6 to cover children between the age group of nine months and 15 years.
